Why Amber Diceless Sucks

I've been researching diceless RPGs recently. You can't do that without hearing people rant on and on about how awesome Amber is. As always, I avoided the big name. They're NEVER what people say they are. (D&D is steeped in backwards wargaming tradition and struggles to remain relevant despite still being the face of the industry; MET and its WoD is a social game for pretentious cosplayers, goths, emos, and wannabes; etc.) Still though, even the big-blands usually have something useful I can learn from. So, finally, I finished reading (and being thoroughly impressed by) Marvel Umiverse, and decided, "you know what? It's time to crack open Amber."

Amber is actually a (really fucked up while simultaneously really bland) novel series by some guy people seem to think is a genius. It was made into a standard RPG setting, which I can't find. Then someone made a diceless of it. I was NOT impressed.

1. The attribute auction is completely retarded. It is explained in reverse order of importance, is explained very poorly, and doesn't represent anytging at all. The attributes themselves are arbitrary and strange. Even afterward, you still don't really know what you have in any regard. Finally, and worst of all, your characters' attributes are literally just a comparison to the other PCs. They do not represent anything at all! But that's all ok because of number 2.

(OMFG THE # IS NOT A REFERENCE MARK!!! FUCK!!! I AM SO SICK OF EDITING POSTS BECAUSE THAT CHARACTER TURNS INTO A LINK TO A PILE OF RANDOM SHIT!!!)

2. Nothing matters! There are no rules. You have no true control or freedom. The DM decides EVERYTHING, right down to your character family and history. The players are nothing, the DM is everything.

There don't need to be any other reasons, though I'm certain there are. I couldn't even finish reading the first chapter, it was so horrible. It was actually painful to read. I have never seen an RPG go so far in the wrong direction on purpose.

Then I went back to the internet to get more details. Was I missing something? Why do people love this game?

I couldn't find any legitemate reasons. They're just all idiots.

Don't get me wrong, I love diceless RPG design. However, if you are going to make a game which represents something, it should actually represent that thing and be founded upon at least some form of internal consistency. "Because I say so." is not a valid core mechanic! It is the complete opposite of the authority and  impartiality rules which define mature RPGs from a childrens game of pretend, and it is the antithesis of player autonomy and emergent narrative.

I can't even imagine how people manage to play this. The moment a DM said "this is who your parents are and who you are" I'd stand up and leave without hesitation.
